Cancer Treatment That Prioritizes Your Quality of Life

Conveniently located in the heart of Atlanta, Emory Proton Therapy Center is Georgia’s only proton therapy facility serving patients in the Southeastern U.S. and beyond, delivering the most advanced radiation treatment for specific tumors and cancers.

Paired with the extensive resources of Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University – Georgia’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center – our team combines advanced pencil-beam scanning proton therapy and renowned medical expertise to create a care plan that aims for fewer side effects and improved quality of life. Emory Proton Therapy Center can help you attack your tumor or cancer with precision and peace of mind while providing the greatest protection of normal healthy tissues.

Benefits of Pencil
Beam Proton Therapy

Compared to traditional X-ray radiation and other treatments, Emory Proton Therapy Center’s highly advanced pencil beam technology offers:

Reduced Radiation Exposure

Pinpointed delivery greatly reduces radiation exposure to normal tissues and organs.

Reduced Side Effects

By reducing or avoiding radiation to normal areas, proton therapy may reduce some side effects during the treatment course, like sore mouth, difficulty swallowing, diarrhea, or urinary problems.

Reduced Long-Term Effects

Reducing or avoiding exposure to radiation also reduces the risks of possible longer-term effects from treatment such as dry mouth, damage to the heart or lungs, and secondary cancers.

Treatment of Complex Tumors

Proton therapy is frequently used to treat complex or irregularly shaped tumors that are in close proximity to vital organs, critical structures, or important healthy tissue.

Treatment of Recurrent Tumors

Proton therapy may be used to treat tumors that have returned after radiation treatment in some cases where other types of radiation may not be a good option.

Treatment of Children

Proton therapy reduces the risks of radiation in children, whose growing bodies are most at risk of radiation side effects.
